The official trailer for Slash/Back, the next horror film from Shudder and RLJE Films, was just published, giving horror fans something to look forward to in the midst of the spooky season. The video promises a good time, complete with plenty of gore. A group of teenagers learn that a scary new menace has come into their village in the teaser posted on the official RLJE Films YouTube website. The youngsters decide to take matters into their own hands and band together to put a stop to the alien invasion that has been frightening their community.
In addition to demonstrating the likeable cast’s chemistry with one another, the teaser also gives a taste of the film’s extraterrestrial foes. The aliens seem to be tentacles that conceal themselves within human bodies; this may be a reference to John Carpenter’s The Thing, which also features a shapeshifting extraterrestrial. The trailer successfully teases the film’s idea without giving too much away about the origins or look of the creature. We may not know where the aliens came from just yet, but on October 21, when the movie opens, we will finally find out. A movie poster has been unveiled alongside the teaser, giving viewers a better look at the film’s protagonists as they stand ready to battle off any enemies that may come their way.
A closer look at the tentacled aliens that have invaded a polar bear and a human is provided below the characters. There’s also this alien-looking building with a bright light pointing above. The film’s poster, like the trailer, successfully captures the film’s tone and showcases the film’s appealing images without giving too much of the movie away. In Slash/Back, the main characters are played by Tasiana Shirley, Alexis Vincent-Wolfe, Nalajoss Ellsworth, and Chelsea Prusky.
The film is directed by Nyla Innuksuk (Kajutaijuq, Breaths), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ryan Cavan (The Bumblebee Man). On October 21, Slash/Back will be available for public viewing in cinemas, online, and via video-on-demand services.
Synopsis
SLASH/BACK begins on a normal summer morning in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, a little town situated in the stunning mountains of Baffin Island in the Arctic Ocean. There would be no more classes, no more attractive boys (save for one), and the sun would shine nonstop. When Maika and her misfit pals uncover evidence of an extraterrestrial invasion in their city, their plans for a relaxing summer are abruptly derailed. After being underestimated their entire lives, these teens finally prove to the aliens that you don’t mess with the girls from Pang by using their knowledge of horror films and improvised weaponry.
