The Epcot attraction’s mascot, Figment, is getting the screen time he deserves. According to Deadline, Disney has attached Seth Rogen and his Point Grey Pictures company to a film focused on the little purple dragon. Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, writers for Pokémon Detective Pikachu, will pen the screenplay. Much of Figment’s life has been spent in anonymity at Epcot. Since its creation in 1983, Disney’s Journey Into Imagination has included the dragon, which was designed by Imagineers Tony Baxter, Steve Kirk, and others at Walt Disney Imagineering.
His moniker indicates that he is a representation of the power of the imagination, and indeed, he has gained a dedicated following among park visitors. The public’s opposition has made him a constant at Epcot for many years despite attempts to eliminate the ride or the character entirely. Even inside his own ride, he has been elevated to the position of the lead character, with the new name Journey Into Imagination Starring Figment. Therefore, the movie is a little bit of a tribute to the strength of the tiny purple dragon that could.
His previous Disney film appearances were brief cameos in Toy Story 4 and Inside Out; nonetheless, this will be his big break. As the show’s main attraction, he leads audiences on a wild ride through the five senses to demonstrate the pervasive impact of the environment on creative thought. However, the narrative of his first film’s main part is now unknown. Yet, he could not have assembled a more perfect group to realise his vision.
Rogen and his Point Grey producing partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver are responsible for several recent television blockbusters, including Amazon’s enormous series The Boys and its animated offshoot The Boys: Diabolical, as well as the current smash sitcom Pam & Tommy. This Is the End and The Interview are two of their films, but they’ve now shifted their focus to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which aims to return the half-shelled heroes to their roots following their portrayal in the Michael Bay movie. Recent film and TV collaborations for Hernandez and Samit include The Addams Family 2 and The Lovebirds, as well as Central Park and the forthcoming Koala Man. Their success in bringing Ryan Reynolds to life as the iconic Pokémon character bodes well for the naughty little dragon.
To far, there has been no announcement regarding a possible release date for the Figment film.
