Feeling cold? It’s because the second season of Yellowjackets, a Showtime series nominated for an Emmy, is closing in fast. Since its January season finale, the wild suspense thriller has been relatively silent, but we’ve been feasting on cast updates, which have been steadily divulging more about what’s to come. According to Deadline, Malaysian actress Nuha Jes Izman has just been cast in a regular guest star role on the show.
The strange unravelling of a group of friends whose plane crashed on the route to a soccer tournament is at the heart of Yellowjackets, a drama that splits its deceptive plot between the mid-’90s and the present day.
The women’s soccer squad is stuck in the terrifying wilderness of Canada. Time jumps set up a situation where the players are left to their own devices, reminiscent of Lost crossed with Lord of the Flies, but with the added knowledge that something evil is going on among the crew. Jumping back and forth between the adolescents’ point of view and the adult survivors, and how they’ve dealt with the aftermath of the catastrophe, simply adds more jigsaw pieces to a story that is already full of horrible details. Production, understandably, is keeping Season 2 details under wraps.
After the first season concluded, viewers were left to speculate about a few lingering mysteries. Something is certainly wrong with adult Taissa, and the harsh survivalist episodes took a terrible supernatural turn because of Lottie’s (Courtney Eaton) forebodings, and then took an even worse turn thanks to her cult leader position (Tawny Cypress). The second season is somewhat quiet because of all of that and the fans’ expectations of cannibalism, but we do know a little bit about Izman’s involvement.
The actress, supposedly, will portray a woman named Crystal. She’s a freshman on the team whose real love is the stage. To her detriment, Crystal makes the “dubious decision” to become friends with Misty (Samantha Hanratty), a mentally ill but resourceful young woman. After making her acting debut in the CBS crime thriller FBI, Izmann will appear in Yellowjackets. Several talented actors and actresses were nominated for Emmys because of their work on Yellowjackets. Like Lost and Orange is the New Black before it, Yellowjackets uses episode after episode to reveal new facets of its characters in an effort to either enlighten or mislead its audience.
For the role of adult Van, it was recently reported that Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) will play the part. Prior to this, fans doubted whether or not adult Van was still alive in the present day. (Please accept my gratitude, authors.) Lottie’s survival was revealed later in Season 1, and Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi) joined the cast to play her as an adult. Finally, Elijah Wood, known for his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings, has joined the cast as Detective Walter, a new character who may prove troublesome to the remaining members of the Yellowjackets. In addition to Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Ella Purnell, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Kevin Alves, Alexa Barajas, Keeya King, Luciano Leroux, and Jane Widdop are a part of the ensemble cast of Yellowjackets.
Creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, who worked together on Narcos, are also executive producers on this programme alongside Jonathan Lisco. Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body), Billie Woodruff (Vampire Academy), Eduardo Sánchez (The Blair Witch Project), and Daisy von Scherler Mayer are just a few of the great directors that have contributed to the programme. Showtime has the whole first season of Yellowjackets.
