The final trailer for Paramount Pictures’ forthcoming horror movie Smile has arrived. In Smile, a young doctor becomes the target of a mysterious evil that manifests itself in the form of a terrifying grin. This feature-length picture is Parker Finn’s directorial debut, and it is based on his short film Laura Hasn’t Slept (2020). Smile stars Sosie Bacon, Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Robin Weigert, Caitlin Stasey, Kal Penn, and Rob Morgan. The last Smile teaser runs for about a minute and eight seconds, but it packs a far bigger impact than the longer trailers. Dr Rose Cotter (Bacon) is shown at the beginning of the trailer paying a jail visit to an inmate.
She confronts him with the question, “Why is it that everyone else who’s seen it is dead, yet you’re alive?” before revealing that she, too, has witnessed “it,” at which point he collapses into fits of laughter. The rest of the extremely brief clip features Dr Cotter being tormented by strangers with a terrifying grin. The clip feels evocative of It Follows, but also implies that Smile will be very much its own thing. Temple Hill presents Smile, a production in collaboration with Paramount Players. Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Isaac Klausner, and Robert Salerno all act as producers in the picture.
Prolific producer Adam Fishbach, who worked on the programmes Love, Victor and Narcos as well as the upcoming feature Argylle, works as executive producer. Reviewers were enthusiastic about the supernatural horror film’s international debut at this year’s Fantastic Fest on September 22. The movie presently boasts a fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 79 per cent. After seeing favourable reactions at test screenings, Paramount pushed to have Smile distributed in theatres instead of on their streaming service, Paramount+. The release date for Smile is set for September 30 with preview showings on September 29 at night.
