Raise your hands for an exclusive sneak peek of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Bridgerton’s prequel novel. As the young royal played by India Ria Amarteifio, Netflix has now given viewers a glimpse of her character. The young queen’s rise to power will be the focus of the spin-off series. On the official Bridgerton Twitter page, there is a photo of Amarteifio in the title role, dressed in champagne-gold royal robes and wearing a crown made of jewelled flowers. Notably, Charlotte is worried, suggesting that there may be unrest in the palace. Tom Verica, the show’s director, just announced the series was finished, and this photo was released only a few weeks after.
Teaser plot details revealed that the story will show “how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton,” despite the fact that most details have been kept under a royal secret seal. This spin-off seems like it will provide a fascinating look at the characters fans have come to know and love. Lady Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell, and Lady Danbury, played by Adjoa Andoh, will both have their early lives detailed in future episodes of the Bridgerton series. Arsema Thomas will play a younger version of Lady Danbury, while Connie Jenkins-Grieg will play a younger version of Violet Bridgerton.
Queen Charlotte’s predecessor, Golda Rosheuval, is also expected to return. Meanwhile, Corey Mylchreest of The Sandman will take on the role of a youthful King George. Writing the Queen Charlotte prequel novel was a collaboration between Bridgerton series creator Julia Quinn and the Netflix adaptation’s executive producer Shonda Rhimes. The novel will hit bookstores just before the spin-off series begins streaming on Netflix. Fans of the Ton may breathe a sigh of relief, as production on the third season of Bridgerton has begun. Penelope Featherington, or Lady Whistledown to those not watching the show, will finally get her happily ever after with Colin Bridgerton this season.
With the second season, the stakes have never been higher, and viewers have responded by watching for an unprecedented 627.11 million hours in the first 28 days on Netflix, making it the most popular English language series in the service’s history. The publication date for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has not been set.
