Plan A Plan B, a new Indian romantic comedy film starring Riteish Deshmukh and Tamannaah Bhatia, has had its first teaser released by Netflix. Deshmukh plays a divorce lawyer with a reputation for being a ladies’ man who forms a business partnership with Bhatia’s single matchmaker. When two polar opposites meet, fireworks and romantic comedies ensue. Plan A Plan B, directed by Shashanka Ghosh (who also directed Khoobsurat and Veere Di Wedding), seems to be aiming for both the large audience for romantic comedies on Netflix and the viewers of reality shows like Indian Matchmaking and Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. The trailer gives the impression of a film that is playing it safe and not taking any risks.
As the “caustic” lawyer Kosty, who doesn’t believe in love, Deshmukh, who has had his fair share of success as a comedy actor, takes centre stage. There’s a time when he says, “Marriage is punishment,” and then later he brags about hitting it up with many women on Tinder. Contrarily, Bhatia’s Nirali is more traditional. She is the type to fantasise about her Prince Charming at all times. Kosty and Nirali quarrel at first, but it is soon apparent to everyone that there is something more going on between them than meets the eye. Bhatia’s second effort to break into the Hindi language market, about a decade after her first attempt to broaden her horizons outside the South Indian language film industries, included the film Plan A Plan B.
On September 23rd, Bhatia will also be featured in the Hindi language Disney+ Hotstar comedy Babli Bouncer. About the movie, she commented: That was one crazy rollercoaster of a movie. It has been an incredible experience working on Plan A and Plan B with everyone involved, from Netflix and the entire ensemble to Shashanka, our director. I can’t wait for it to debut on Netflix since it’s such a vibrant film that will speak to viewers of all stripes. Deshmukh has sought to expand his acting repertoire beyond comic parts by playing a serial killer in a supporting role in the film Ek Villain and the protagonist in a Marathi language action film titled Laal Bhaari in the previous decade.
Ved, in which he and his wife Genelia D’Souza will both star, will be his first picture as a director. On the subject of contingency plans, he remarked, My appreciation for comedies goes way back, and watching Plan A Plan B was another great time at the movies for me. Plan A, Plan B has been one of my projects where I’ve worked with a team whose unique take on the genre has been appreciated by viewers. We put a lot of heart into this video and are excited for Netflix users all across the world to watch it. Poonam Dhillon and Kusha Kapila also feature in Plan A Plan B. On September 30th, the movie will be available on Netflix.
