This year’s D23 Expo is in full swing, & Disney and its franchises are revealing a multitude of information about both previously announced and brand-new projects throughout the weekend. During their presentation on Friday, Pixar revealed that their upcoming film would be named Elio. When they made the big news, they also shared the identities of their two main characters. The main character will be played by Yonas Kibreab, while America Ferrera will play Elio’s mom, Olga Solis. Pixar has released the first look at their upcoming film Elio, which follows the titular 11-year-old boy “who finds himself transported across the galaxy and mistaken for the intergalactic Ambassador for our planet Earth.”
Additional details about the movie are being kept under wraps for the time being. In it, our young hero is shown in what appears to be a fantasy world teeming with odd and interesting species and more. Ferrera is no stranger to voice acting for animated films; she provided the voice of Astrid in the critically acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon film trilogy. She later returned to voice the character in subsequent episodes of the DreamWorks Dragons series and spinoffs. Her voice may be more well-known, but she is also a household name in the real world.
She has lately starred as Amy Sosa, a floor supervisor-turned-manager-turned-corporate higher up, in the NBC comedy Superstore. Despite being gone for a large chunk of Season 6, she came back for the season finale. Ferrera is best known for her roles in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and the ABC series Ugly Betty. The next Barbie film starring Margot Robbie will be her next role. Star Wars fans may recognise Kibreab best from his appearances as a Jedi Youngling in a few episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Given his tender years, he has mostly appeared as a guest star on episodes like Silicon Valley and Raven’s Home.
In addition to Elio, his next film project is Pupstruction, which is now in the planning stages. There will be many exciting animation releases in the coming several years, and Elio is one of them. It’s official: a sequel to Inside Out, Disney and Pixar’s critically acclaimed 2015 smash, is in production right now. In November of this year, you may watch Zootopia again with all-new storylines in the sequel. The film Strange World will also debut in cinemas this November. Audiences will rush to cinemas to watch Elemental in 2019 for sure. Iwáj, Wish, Hit or Miss, and a plethora of other works are only a few examples. The debut of Elio is scheduled for the summer of 2024.
