McFarlane Toys has debuted its forthcoming Avatar-inspired toy collection at D23, celebrating James Cameron’s Avatar film series. In a tweet titled “Booth is READY,” Todd McFarlane shared a video from the booth at D23 for everybody to see. The booth features Jake Sully in avatar form, Neytiri, and Colonel Miles Quaritch with an AMP suit that comes with its own cockpit and a number of other iconic characters from the franchise. The box art for the new figurines, featuring a stunning depiction of Pandora’s bioluminescent forest, is also on display at the stand.
The tweet also features numerous multicoloured Banshees, native to Pandora, upon which many Na’vi characters can be seen riding and making poses. McFarlane Toys updated its website to include the new toys, which are now available for fans to pre-order alongside the announcement of the next collection at D23. Other characters in the line include a Thanator that comes with Jake Sully and a Direhorse that comes with Tsu’tey. Several monsters and characters from Avatar will be available in a larger 7-inch size, and a smaller 3-inch version, as shown at the exhibit.
In addition to the standard action figures, McFarlane Toys will also release a series of blind boxes designed to look like rocks covered in vegetation and containing hidden mini-figures based on the actors and animals in the movies. As far as we can tell from the D23 reveals, the toys are based on the first film rather than the next one because no new characters or animals have been shown off thus far. Still unknown is whether or not further numbers are on the way. If you scan your D23 badge at the booth, you might be entered to win an autographed Avatar figurine, as announced by McFarlane in a tweet.
A photograph showing most of the characters buried in a bioluminescent environment was just teased by the official Avatar Twitter account. Fans of the franchise can now look forward to the figurines’ arrival in time for the premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water now that they have been revealed in all their splendour. McFarlane Toys’ Avatar action figures may be ordered ahead of their October 1 release date.
