An official trailer for High School, an Amazon Freevee series based on Tegan and Sara’s 2019 book of the same name, has been released. TikTok stars Railey and Seazynn Gilliland portray the adolescent versions of Tegan and Sara Quin, the famous indie music duo of today. The series will chronicle the sisters’ coming of age in the middle of the grunge movement of the ’90s, as they struggle to find their identities in the face of widespread labelling. The remainder of the show’s cast includes Cobie Smolders, Kyle Bornheimer, Amanda Fix, C.J. Valleroy, Nate Corddry, and Brianne Tju. The trailer opens with a scene showing a girl at the sisters’ school inquiring if they are twins, and one of the sisters answers truthfully while the other answers with a flat “no.”
This instantly establishes the tension between the sisters as a key plot point of the programme. Soon enough, Tegan and Sara start hanging out with a group of rough kids at school, but they still have difficulties getting along with one another. A love connection that one of the sisters is struggling to understand is another source of stress in her life. After being advised that they will be spending a lot of time together and should get along, the sisters take up music as a method to connect with one another. The trailer for High School is an emotional coming-of-age story set to a cover of “Today” by The Smashing Pumpkins performed by the actual Tegan and Sara, and it’s certain to amuse anybody who utilised music as a coping mechanism throughout adolescence.
Regular Amazon shoppers may request the new Tegan and Sara song by asking “Alexa, play the new song” within the Amazon Music app. The showrunners are actress Clea DuVall and Insecure producer Laura Kittrell. Of the show’s eight episodes, DuVall directed six and Rebecca Asher directed two. The show’s writers are sisters Sara and Tegan Quin, as well as DuVall. High School is executive produced by the Quin sisters, C.J. DuVall, C.J. Kittrell, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Carina Sposato, and will premiere its first four episodes on Amazon Freevee. On October 14, Amazon Freevee will begin streaming the first four episodes of High School.
