Several excellent new television series debuted this past summer. The Pretty Little Liars spinoff, Original Sin, was another horror series that won over viewers when others were preoccupied with a group of teens trying to solve the secrets of the Upside Down. A further season of the spinoff has been ordered for HBO Max. This is thrilling news, considering the series’ first season of horror was generally well-received. In large part, this is due to Original Sin’s decision to pivot the series entirely toward slasher horror. The series’ classic setup, revolving around a group of kids seeking to unravel a sad secret from their families’ pasts, was like comfort food for any genre lover.
Millwood was a living tribute to slasher classics like Halloween, Prom Night, Scream, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The finest thing, though, was how well the series’ nostalgic sentiments were backed up by the strength of the dark mystery surrounding “A” and the individuals in this killer’s gaze. Sarah Aubrey, the head of original content at HBO Max, shared her enthusiasm over the show’s renewal with the press. We couldn’t be happier with the reception PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: ORIGINAL SIN has had from audiences and critics alike. Our new generation of Liars, as well as Roberto and Lindsay’s fantastically dark, horror-fueled take on this venerable brand, have been well received by viewers.
We are excited to continue the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ heritage with Alloy and Warner Bros. Television. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, the show’s creators, had a similar view when they said: We can’t wait to continue telling tales about the incredible ladies of Pretty Little Liars, whose friendships, relationships, secrets, and reign as scream queens supreme have already been explored in previous seasons. Our colleagues at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, and Alloy Entertainment, as well as the viewers who have embraced this new, horror-themed “Pretty Little Liars,” are in our hearts forever. The sequel is in the works, as Tabby would say.
There are many more tales to be told about this horrific “Breakfast Club” of outcasts, as the showrunners themselves have hinted at. One, A has survived and, after the events of Season 1, is likely on the hunt for vengeance once more. But beyond the enjoyable horror style, there were many compellingly dark themes running through the stories and fascinating character interactions. Season 1 did a fantastic job of combining the hyperbolic scares typical of the genre with more grounded horrors like the emotional rape storyline involving Bailee Madison’s Imogen and Chandler Kinney’s Tabby.
Original Sin, despite being named after one of Warner Bros.’s most successful franchises, seems like it may be next on the studio’s ravenous chopping block with all the chaos at Warner Bros. and HBO Max. Fortunately, it wasn’t the case. Even if the programme had several flaws, it was nevertheless a must-watch mystery every week thanks to its horror-inspired plots and fascinating characters. Since the famous town of Riverdale was mentioned in the first season, it is only fair that this new show has the same enticing quality as the first few episodes of Riverdale. The premiere date for Season 2 has not been set, however, we can probably expect it sometime in 2019. Until then, you can watch the full first season of Pretty Little Liars and all 10 episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin right now on HBO Max. Madison, Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, Elena Goode, Eric Johnson, Alex Aiono, and Lea Salonga are among the cast members of Original Sins.
