A new teaser for Prime Video’s My Policeman, which stars Harry Styles in the title role as he deals with his double life and forbidden love, debuted just before the film’s global premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The novel, written by Bethan Roberts in 2012, serves as the basis for a gay romantic drama that looks at love and freedom via a love triangle that threatens to leave all three parties involved devastated and shattered. On October 21, it will premiere in cinemas, and on November 4, it will be available on Prime Video. Tom (Styles) and Marion (who seems to be the lady of his dreams) have what appears to be a pretty typical relationship in the trailer (Emma Corrin).
All appears fine with the pair as we flash back to their many dates and joyful small moments together, culminating in their wedding until museum curator Patrick Hazlewood (David Dawson) enters the picture. Tom is married, but he has deep feelings for Patrick; given the current climate, however, keeping this fact hidden is in everyone’s best interest. It’s a messy situation that might end up ruining all three of their lives in an instant. Marion doesn’t seem thrilled about it, and if you are found, the repercussions will be harsh.
We also see how the secret and its repercussions have aged the characters over time. My Policeman will span the decades between the 1950s and the 1990s to demonstrate the enduring strength of love and the difficulty of suppressing emotions. After years of comfort with Marion, Tom’s (Linus Roache) marriage will be put to the test when Patrick (Rupert Everett) returns. Tom and Marion’s (Gina McKee) lives may be thrown into chaos, but this is also an opportunity for Tom to reconnect with his feelings and finally be free with the woman he loves. The screenplay for the Prime Video adaptation of My Policeman was written by Ron Nyswaner, and Michael Grandage directed the film.
Producers Philip Herd, Cora Palfrey, and Sarah Schechter work under the direction of Greg Berlanti and his husband Robbie Rogers. Two films starring Harry Styles have been getting a lot of attention recently; in addition to My Policeman, Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling is also set to be out in late September. There, he’ll share screen time with Florence Pugh in what is likely to be one of his last film roles. Styles had told Rolling Stone in August that he is not interested in acting at this time and plans to instead concentrate on his music career.
The film My Policeman will premiere in theatres on October 21 and on Prime Video on November 4.
