A new poster for The Fabelmans has been unveiled, including several still photos from the upcoming production only days before the debut of Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical film at the Toronto International Film Festival. On the poster, Stage 25 is written in huge letters next to a shadow of a person strolling along an alley. Film reels with scenes from the film are featured on the poster’s backdrop.
The most eye-catching ones come in the middle, and they see Gabriel LaBelle, who portrays Sammy Fabelman, experimenting with a camera and following his passion for filmmaking. Poster art also features Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea), who plays Sammy’s mom Leah Fabelman, dancing under the glare of the spotlights. Burt, Sammy’s father, is played by Paul Dano (The Batman), and he can be seen grinning and holding a monkey on his shoulder in the poster.
The poster also features Seth Rogan (The Disaster Artist), who plays Burt’s coworker in the film; however, it is unclear what role this character plays in the plot. The Fabelmans will be a semi-autobiographical depiction of Spielberg’s upbringing, following the life of a young boy named Sammy Fabelman in post-World War II Arizona as he pursues his ambition of becoming a filmmaker. Sammy’s life will be shown in the film from his infancy through his late teens when he learns the significance of the film.
The poster effectively teases the film’s idea, characters, and the fact that the film’s focus is on Sammy’s family and his path as a filmmaker. Spielberg has directed some of the most iconic movies of all time, including Jaws, ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and Schindler’s List (for which he won an Oscar for Best Director). Now that Spielberg has taken the helm of a biopic about his formative years, The Fabelmans has the potential to be an emotionally resonant picture that provides viewers with a fresh perspective on the beginnings of his renowned career.
Spielberg directs and co-wrote the picture alongside Tony Kushner, with whom he has worked before on West Side Story, Lincoln, and Munich. It also marks the return of Spielberg’s longtime partner, composer John Williams. It is produced by Kristie Macosko Krieger, Kushner, and Steven Spielberg. The world premiere of The Fabelmans will take place at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival. Thereafter, the film will have a limited theatrical release beginning on November 11, followed by a wide release on November 23.
