Two new trailers have been published for Disney’s live-action Pinocchio remake, which will debut on Disney+ later this week and offer fans a new take on famous scenes from the original animated classic. In the first clip, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who voices Pinocchio, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who portrays Jiminy Cricket, have a delightful reenactment of a moment from the original film, in which Pinocchio’s nose grows as a result of his repeated falsehoods. Although the sequence is a faithful recreation of the one in the animated picture, the Blue Fairy, who saw Pinocchio’s falsehoods, is conspicuously missing. The second film is a recreation of an iconic scene from the original, in which Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) plays the Blue Fairy, who formally recognises Jiminy Cricket as Pinocchio’s conscience and knights him.
In this sequence, Erivo shines as the Blue Fairy, displaying the same serene goodwill as her cartoon counterpart. Even as it echoes the cartoon classic, the short presents a humorous commentary by calling into question Jiminy Cricket’s (Tom Hanks) morality for breaking into Gepetto’s (Tom Hanks’s) home. The original animated Pinocchio, which debuted in 1940, is still one of Disney’s most highly regarded movies, with many critics praising the picture for its innovative animation and captivating tale. There was widespread anticipation that a Pinocchio movie would be made after the success of other live-action Disney remakes including The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King.
Unlike the aforementioned films, which all premiered in theatres, Pinocchio will make its debut on Disney+, following in the footsteps of 2019’s Lady and the Tramp remake. This week, Disney+ will premiere a live-action version of the classic tale Pinocchio, giving viewers a new opportunity to relive the magic of making a wish upon a star. Peter Pan and Wendy will join Pinocchio on Disney+ at a later, undisclosed date. The Little Mermaid, a live-action adaptation starring Halle Bailey, is scheduled for release on May 26, 2023.
Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), will be released after The Little Mermaid on a date yet to be announced. Disney’s Hercules will also be reimagined in a live-action format, and it will be directed by Guy Ritchie, who was also responsible for the Aladdin remake. With multiple upcoming remakes of Disney classics, fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
On September 8, Disney+ will debut the animated film Pinocchio.
