Deadline claims that Isabelle Fuhrman has been cast in the Kevin Costner-directed western Horizon, where she will don a bonnet and go back in time to the era of the Civil War. In addition to Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Jena Malone, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means, and Michael Rooker, Fuhrman has been added to the star-studded cast list. As a filmmaker, Costner’s first foray into the Civil War era was with Dances With Wolves (1990).
With 12 Oscar nods and seven wins (including Best Picture and Best Director), it’s no surprise that Costner is returning to the era for his next film. The movie will cover many plotlines as its main characters struggle to survive the 15 years leading up to, during, and immediately following the Civil War. Audiences will witness as these individuals, many of whom are seeking a new life in the vast and uncharted West, journey across the nation, contend with the severe forces of nature, and work with and occasionally conflict with the indigenous peoples who have lived in this area for thousands of years.
The documentary will provide a glimpse into the hardscrabble existence that the pioneers were forced to adopt, as they faced daily threats to their own survival. Fuhrman recently restyled her hair into pigtails to reprise the part of Esther in Orphan: First Kill, a role that helped establish her as the creepiest adult kid ever. The picture had a limited theatrical release before it exploded at the box office, prompting Paramount to hastily expand the run. Both the actress and the film she was in, Lauren Hadaway’s sports drama The Novice, received praise from critics. Fuhrman will next be seen opposite Dennis Quaid and fellow Hunger Games veteran Josh Hutcherson in the futuristic science fiction film Littlemouth. The actress’s busy schedule now includes another title, Horizon.
She has also contributed to the action-adventure film Sheroes by Jordan Gertner (Spring Breakers) and the forthcoming thriller Unit 237 by Andy Tennant. Horizon was co-written by Costner and Jon Baird, who was nominated for a BAFTA. Territory Pictures, Inc., which is owned by Costner, will produce the film. Costner’s next project is set in the western genre, and he brings a wealth of period expertise to the role. There is currently no scheduled release date.
