Already October has here and with it the release of Halloween Ends, which promises to put an end to the decades-long conflict between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. Fans have been waiting impatiently for what they believe to be the conclusion to the Halloween drama, and there has been much conjecture about it. Now, Universal has unveiled a brand-new graphic that suggests the two archenemies won’t go down without a last showdown. In the exclusive photo released by USA Today, we see Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie and Michael Myers, played by Jamie Campbell, doing what they do best: trying to murder one other.
Michael is in a strong position to win this exchange since he has Laurie pressed against the table. The villain is reaching for the iconic ending girl’s ear with a knitting needle as he tries to stab her in the back of the head. True believers in the Halloween series will recall that Laurie used a knitting needle to stab Michael in the back in one of John Carpenter’s films. Given Laurie’s attire, it’s safe to assume that this is the same battle seen in the Ends teaser trailer, in which Michael seeks poetic vengeance. The events of this film take place four years after those of Halloween and Halloween Kills, yet much else about this strange climax remains a mystery.
Together, Laurie and her granddaughter Allyson are making an effort to overcome their fear of the dreadful form; Laurie is even following in the footsteps of Sidney Prescott and penning a book to help her heal from the trauma she has experienced over the years. On the other hand, Michael Myers’s spectre is never far away in Haddonfield. A murder charge against a babysitter sends the community into a tailspin. This graphic perfectly captures the gravity of the situation in Ends and will serve as a constant reminder to readers. Both Halloween and Kills paid tribute to the original 1978 film with gory details and spooky references. The third and final instalment of David Gordon Green’s trilogy promises to be just as emotionally devastating as the others. There have been a lot of deaths in this new trilogy, and established characters like Tommy Doyle, Sheriff Leigh Brackett, and Nurse Marion Chambers have all met their end.
As a result, I have a sinking feeling that Laurie or Michael (or both) won’t survive the season finale. Despite the fact that Laurie and Michael have perished several times in alternate realities of the franchise, this film seems like the end of an era. Regardless of what happens next with Myers, at least this is the gory end of Curtis’ portrayal of Laurie. On October 14, Halloween Ends will murder its way into theatres and the Peacock, revealing the last chapter in the saga of Laurie and Michael Myers. Now that the film’s release date is less than a month away, a new trailer must be on the way.
