Documentary ‘Pennywise: The Story of IT’ Signs Distribution Deal in the United Kingdom

legendary killer clown and symbol of evil Fear of Pennywise is the root of many adult anxieties about children. If you’re afraid of enormous honking clown shoes, you may blame the groundbreaking 1990 miniseries IT. The miniseries, adapted from Stephen King’s 1986 novel, has been terrifying audiences for nearly three decades. And Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment has been reported by Deadline to have acquired the UK distribution rights to the documentary Pennywise: The Story of IT, which will shortly give us an inside look at the making of the series. John Capopiano and Christopher Griffiths co-directed the film Pennywise: The Story of IT. Cinedigm has bought up the documentary, which had its world debut at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain, for distribution in the United States.

The legendary Tim Curry, who portrayed the clown on screen, will be the subject of this documentary. Curry and the other miniseries stars, including Seth Green and Richard Thomas, will be interviewed for the documentary. The series’ impact on the development of widespread coulrophobia (a fear of clowns) and Tim Curry’s ground-breaking performance are only two of the numerous themes that will be examined in the documentary. Unannounced Film Company CEO Laurence Gronall and Kaleidoscope Entertainment CEO Spencer Pollard have inked a new distribution arrangement. The agreement, according to Pollard, “…[w]e couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of such an incredible project. When Pennywise was launched in the United States, it became a Twitter trend, therefore it’s safe to assume that it has a dedicated fan base.”

It’s about time we got an in-depth look at one of the most renowned Stephen King adaptations, and this documentary will do just that. In light of the 2017 and 2019 two-part adaption films, which introduced a new generation of horror fans to the insane clown, the miniseries has fallen out of favour in recent years. There will never be another Pennywise, but the new documentary will give due credit to Tim Curry, the guy behind the clown nose. Aside from his portrayal as Pennywise in the original miniseries, Curry is well-known for his campy yet recognisable acting in films like Clue and Rocky Horror Picture Show. The film will be available on digital platforms on October 3. On October 24, just in time for Halloween, the movie will be released on DVD and Blu-ray.
