Deadline reports that Carla Gugino (Gerald’s Game) has joined the cast of The Girls on the Bus, an upcoming political drama series on HBO Max. She will be joining Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Natasha Behnam (Mayans MC), Christina Elmore (Insecure), and Brandon Scott (The Flash) on the cast (Dead to Me). There isn’t much known about the programme just yet, but according to Deadline’s description, it follows Sadie McCarthy (Benoist), a journalist who drops everything to cover the impending presidential campaign. She makes friends with three rivals, Lola, Kimberlyn, and Grace, so that she can cover the election for president.
Grace Gordon Greene, a seasoned reporter who becomes Sadie’s mentor and companion, will be portrayed by Gugino in the series. Behnam will portray Lola, and Elmore will play Kimberlyn. The Girls on the Bus has an intriguing notion at its centre, so viewers should keep an eye out for it when it premieres on HBO Max. Amy Chozick’s book Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling, which follows Clinton’s political career from 2008 to 2016, will serve as the series’ point of departure. Writer and executive producer Chozick will work alongside Julie Plec on the show.
Along with Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti, series showrunner Rina Mimoun is on the executive producing team as well. As development progresses, we should expect to learn more about the show. In addition to her role in The Girls on the Bus, Gugino will be featured in the upcoming Netflix horror miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher, which is adapted from an Edgar Allan Poe novel. Gugino will also feature in the forthcoming horror comedy film Lisa Frankenstein, which will mark the directorial debut of Zelda Williams and the AGC Television criminal thriller series Leopard Skin. Fans of Gugino’s art have a lot to look forward to in the next couple of years, as he has multiple projects in the works.
As The Girls on the Bus is still in its infancy in terms of production, there is no premiere date as of yet.
