Mr Harrigan’s Phone, the next adaptation from Stephen King, will premiere on Netflix in October, and the service has now revealed the first official photos from the film. The film is based on King’s novella of the same name, which can be found in his most recent collection If It Bleeds. It follows a young child as he keeps in touch with a reclusive older man he met in life through his iPhone after the man’s death. The cast also includes Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Joe Tippett, Cyrus Arnold, Colin O’Brien, Thomas Francis Murphy, and Peggy J. Scott, with Jaeden Martell and Donald Sutherland playing the key parts.
John Lee Hancock, who previously directed The Highwaymen and The Little Things, penned the script and took the helm for Mr Harrigan’s Phone. Ten photos from Mr Harrigan’s Phone have been published by Netflix, giving a glimpse into the dark thriller that it appears to be. Some of these stills are from the film itself, while others are photographs shot on the set. Photos show Craig, played by Martell, hanging out with his pals, hanging out with the main character, and even paying their elder buddy final respect at his burial.
Craig is shown confronting an apparent bully in one picture, while Mr Harrigan sits comfortably in a chic black chair in another, more sinister image. The trailer has sold me on the idea that this will be a psychologically terrifying horror flick. Along with Jason Blum of Blumhouse and Carla Hacken of Hell or High Water, Ryan Murphy, creator of American Horror Story, serves as a producer on Mr Harrigan’s Phone. The Motion Picture Association of America has given the film a PG-13 rating due to its “thematic material, some harsh language, violent content, and short drug material” and its current running duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Stephen King has tweeted his excitement about the new film, saying, “I have seen a close to the completed version of Mr Harrigan’s Phone, written and directed by John Lee Hancock, and it’s nothing short of wonderful.” Numerous films based on works by Stephen King are in the works, with Mr Harrigan’s Phone among them. As for the other novellas included in If It Bleeds, Ben Stiller has the rights to direct and appear in Rat, and Darren Aronofsky, who directed Requiem for a Dream, is apparently on board to produce a film adaptation of The Life of Chuck.
Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) and Rob Savage (Dashcam) will direct their respective adaptations of Salem’s Lot and The Boogeyman, both of which are scheduled for release in 2019. The Breathing Method, Christine, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and The Tommyknockers are some of the other King works being adapted at the moment.
On October 5, Mr Harrigan’s Phone will make its debut on Netflix.
