“The Wonder” Will Open in Theaters and on Netflix, Release Date, Cast & Synopsis & More

Netflix has revealed when its next Fall and Holiday season premieres will occur. While the debut dates for a few of these were previously public knowledge, some were surprises. The Wonder, starring Florence Pugh, will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 13, and its theatrical and streaming release windows have now been announced. The Wonder, directed by Chilean director Sebastián Lelio, is adapted from Emma Donoghue’s 2016 novel of the same name. This is the seventh novel by the Irish author, and it’s inspired by the genuine accounts of women and girls who claimed to have gone without food for extended periods of time, surviving only on their faith in God.

Room, which was transformed into the Brie Larson-starring picture that was nominated for an Academy Award, is perhaps Donoghue’s most famous novel. Pugh plays an English nurse sent in to examine the “fasting girl,” or eleven-year-old child at the centre of a mysterious occurrence, in The Wonder, a film by director and writer Michelangelo Lelio.
Tom Burke, Niamh Algar, Elaine Cassidy, Kla Lord Cassidy, Toby Jones, Ciarán Hinds, Dermot Crowley, Bran F. O’Byrne, and David Wilmot also star. Lelio and Alice Birch adapted Donoghue’s work into a screenplay. Donoghue, Len Blavatnik, and Danny Cohen served as executive producers, with Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, Ed Guiney, and Andrew Lowe serving as producers.

The camerawork was handled by Ari Wegner, edited by Kristina Hetherington, and the set designed by Grant Montgomery. House Productions and Element Pictures are responsible for the 108-minute length drama. There will be a limited release of The Wonder in theatres this November, and it will be available on Netflix in December.

Synopsis
“In the Irish Midlands in the year 1862, a small girl stops eating but, by some miracle, survives. Lib Wright, a nurse from England, is dispatched to a remote community so she may keep an eye on Anna O’Donnell, a little girl of eleven. They come to see the girl who, legend has it, went months without eating and somehow survived. Do they have a saint in their midst who is “surviving on manna from heaven,” or are there darker forces at play? This adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s (Room) famous novel is a psychological thriller with roots in the 19th-century phenomena of the “fasting girls.”
