Now that autumn is almost here, holiday special announcements are sure to start trickling in. The time for us to be inundated with entertainment news surrounding the most wonderful time of the year is almost here, what with audiences getting ready to see the ultimate showdown between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers in the third and final instalment of David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy and Rob Zombie’s feature-length take on The Munsters. And if you’re a fan of country music or just a fan of the national treasure that is Dolly Parton (who isn’t?! ), this holiday-themed news will put a spring in your step. Musicians including Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, Willie Nelson, Jimmie Allen, and Zach Williams, as well as actors like Tom Everett Scott, Ana Gasteyer, and Angel Parker, will be featured in Dolly Parton’s forthcoming NBC special Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas.
Parton will feature in the show as herself to spread the festive cheer she experiences in the core of Dollywood every year. Country music’s biggest artist will be followed by fans as she scrambles to put on a show, revealing intimate details about her life as she works with her A-list cast and choreographs musical parts. Viewers will encounter the singer’s own version of the Three Wise Mountain Men as she reflects on the past and is reminded of the true meaning of the holiday season.
After taking some time to reflect, Parton will be ready to help the rest of the ensemble bring their best to the stage as they bring the festive spirit to life. Since 2015, when she performed with former NBC entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt on piano for her performances of “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Will Always Love You,” Parton has worked with the network. In the same year that Coat of Many Colors and Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love were released, NBC signed a contract with the performer to continue their successful collaboration on a number of TV movies. The news that David Rambo (Empire) will be writing the feature film first surfaced in May.
In addition to co-writing and co-executive producing with Sam Haskell, Hudson Hickman, and Dolly Parton, he will also be a writer on the series. Aside from Magnolia Hill Productions and Sandollar Productions, Warner Bros. Television will also be involved in the production of this show thanks to the involvement of Billy Levin as a producer. There is currently no scheduled release date.
