The next episode in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise is drawing closer, and fans couldn’t be happier. Deadline reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige have joined the cast of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley on Netflix, which is the new title for the upcoming Eddie Murphy comedy. Murphy portrayed Axel Foley, a police officer from Detroit who, in the first Beverly Hills Cop, goes to California to investigate the death of a friend but finds himself completely out of his element. In both of the films’ sequels, Axel Foley was dispatched back to Beverly Hills on several occasions.
Unknown at this moment is what will lead the Detroit cop back to the West Coast in the fourth film, but it’s sure to be exciting. Furthermore, details about Gordon-Levitt and Paige’s characters and their respective responsibilities have been kept under wraps. The release of the first Beverly Hills Cop film is frequently cited as the turning point in Murphy’s career. A few months after his departure from Saturday Night Live, the film was released, propelling him to international stardom.
After that, Murphy made other successful comedies including Coming to America and his groundbreaking stand-up special Eddie Murphy: Raw. Fans have been waiting for this fourth instalment since it was initially planned in the 1990s, and it now seems like they’ll get to see it soon. Gordon-Levitt is well-known for his roles in films such as Inception, (500) Days of Summer, and The Dark Knight Rises. He’s been in movies like The Trial of the Chicago 7 and will be voicing Jiminy Cricket in Disney’s upcoming live-action Pinocchio remake. Paige, meantime, made a major break with A24’s Zola and will soon be seen in the new version of The Toxic Avenger.
Will Beall creates the script for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Aquaman and Zack Snyder’s Justice League are just two of the successful blockbusters that Beall has written the scripts for. Mark Molloy, a veteran of commercials, has been tapped to helm the movie, while Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films have signed on to produce it with Murphy. Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic will serve as the show’s executive producers. In this capacity, Melissa Reid joins the team as a co-producer. When it debuts, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will be available only through the streaming service Netflix.
