The next film in which Barbie Ferreira appears will be a psychological suspense film. Ferreira’s casting in House of Spoils was revealed by Prime Video and Blumhouse Television. Ferreira’s portrayal of Kat Hernandez on Euphoria on HBO made her a household name. Both the 2019 Jordan Peele film Nope and the upcoming 2020 HBO Max film Unpregnant use her work (directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg). Ariana DeBose, who played Anita in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 film adaptation of West Side Story, will star with Hernandez in House of Spoils. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.
She will also play Calypso in the forthcoming Spider-Man spinoff film Kraven the Hunter, produced by Sony. A chef (DeBose) who is about to start her own restaurant will be the focus of House of Spoils. The catch is that the restaurant is on a very isolated estate. DeBose’s heroine faces self-doubt as well as uncertainty from an investor as she tries to lead the new firm. Moreover, she must contend with the ghost of the estate’s former owner, who is intent on foiling her plans. Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy will helm the upcoming film House of Spoils. Blow the Man Down, a film released in 2019, was also co-directed by the two. Both episodes of Moonhaven (on AMC+) and The Stand (on Paramount+) had episodes directed by them.
Cole and Krudy did not just direct the picture, but also authored the script. Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, Secret Engine’s Alex Scharfman, Lucas Joaquin, and Drew Houpt, and Divide/Adam Conquer’s Hendricks and Greg Gilreath will all serve as producers on the picture. The movie will be executive produced by Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold of Blumhouse Television. McCumber has previously remarked regarding the film, “We’re delighted to witness Ariana’s fresh, vibrant, and enthusiastic energy that won her an Oscar in a character that is very different.” And the ability in front of and behind the camera is superb thanks to Bridget and Danielle, the brilliant filmmaking duo. Amazon Studios will also serve as the film’s producer.
According to Julie Rapaport, president of movies at Amazon Studios, “since Blow the Man Down, we have been tremendous fans of Bridget and Danielle’s unique filmmaking voice and felt we needed to be a part of whatever they decided to make next.” We are thrilled to be bringing this exciting narrative to the big screen for the enjoyment of our global audience thanks to the combination of their riveting writing and Ariana’s tremendous skill. The movie is set to start filming this fall. There has been no confirmation of when House of Spoils will be available on Prime Video.
