Those of us who have been wondering how long before Rob Zombie’s The Munsters would be available on streaming services may now rest easy. It was revealed today that the latest feature-length film from the filmmaker of “House of 1000 Corpses” would be available on Netflix on September 27. If you’ve been paying attention or have read the previous stories we’ve provided on the movie’s release, you’ll know that this is also the day when the Blu-ray, digital, and DVD versions of the movie will be made available to purchase.
Netflix customers may watch the film instantly and for free, but die-hard Zombie fans might consider purchasing a physical copy to enjoy an hour of special features, including interviews and behind-the-scenes video with the director and his cast. Zombie’s film will centre on the beginnings of Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) and Herman Munster’s (Jeff Daniel Phillips) love, updating the legendary 1960s CBS sitcom while remaining faithful to its groovy roots. A month ago, a trailer was published, revealing various story threads that would likely be developed during the film. Lily’s relationship with her father, The Count (Dan Roebuck), who despises her new boyfriend, will also be explored more.
In addition to Cassandra Peterson, Jorge Garcia, Sylvester McCoy, Tomas Boykin, Richard Brake, and many more are listed on the call sheet as other characters. There will be enough of storylines to go around, thanks to characters like Lester the Werewolf (Boykin), Tin Can Man (original cast member Butch Patrick), and even one-episode wonder and spokes-ghoul for Crumble Creatures Crackers, Zombo, who is also scheduled to feature in the film. In addition to releasing his cinematic interpretation, Zombie has also released not one but two albums with a similar, in-universe focus. Both “It’s Zombo” and “House of Zombo,” two of the ghoulish host’s most popular songs, appear on the debut 12-inch record dedicated to Zombo.
Also, in a recent release, Zombie said that he will be releasing a record starring Herman and Lily, which would include the duo performing a rendition of “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher. Both albums may be purchased now. Although there has been radio silence on an official soundtrack or other musical thoughts based on The Munsters, we anticipate that Zombie will release at least a couple more surprises for his fans in the next month. With only a few weeks left till the premiere on September 27, everyone is eager to see what tricks Zombie has up his sleeve for the production.
