Ready to have Jason Momoa show you around a place where your wildest, scariest desires may come true? Well, we’ll have to be patient and wait until Thanksgiving for the whole experience, but as of today, Netflix has released the teaser for Slumberland, which shows glimpses of an epic voyage through a fascinating land of dreams. Slumberland is a comedy-adventure film with vivid fanciful and magical themes directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games). Momoa has previously collaborated with the filmmaker on two episodes of See, a dystopian series launching on Apple TV on August 26.
The movie follows a little girl named Nema as she travels to a fantastical dream world in quest of her missing father with the aid of a half-man, half-monster creature (played by Momoa). In the preview, we find Nema (Marlow Barkley) exploring Slumberland with the assistance of Flip (Momoa), who claims to have met Nema’s father, who could also enter Slumberland and helped Flip take stuff from other people’s dreams. Whether or not he is actually able to bring her father back, Nema decides to follow him nonetheless, and what follows is guaranteed to be the adventure of a lifetime, full of peril and excitement. It all started at the turn of the century with a series of comic strips by Winsor McCay called Little Nemo in Slumberland.
Netflix has taken a lot of modifications to the picture, such as making Nemo a girl instead of a boy, but the core of the plot appears to have been preserved, and casting a huge star like Momoa is guaranteed to increase the film’s family-friendly appeal. In addition to Barkley and Momoa, the film also features the talents of David Guion and Michael Handelman-penned actors Kyle Chandler, India de Beaufort, Chris O’Dowd, and Humberly González, and Tonya Cornelisse. Netflix will debut in Slumberland on November 18.
