The situation in Toronto is officially deteriorating. Antony Starr, star of the Prime Video parody series The Boys, announced today on Twitter that production on Season 4 had begun. The actor who portrays the vicious and psychotic Homelander threw things back in time by posting an old photo of The Seven on his Twitter account. Together in Vought Tower are Nathan Mitchell’s Black Noir, Starr’s Homelander, Dominique McElligott’s Queen Maeve, Jesse T. Usher’s A-Train, and Erin Moriarty’s Starlight, Chace Crawford’s Translucent, and Crawford’s late brother, the late Translucent (Alex Hassell).
Starr included a sentimental note with the photo, recalling the long-ago days when the band members first put on their costumes and lined up on set. Despite the fact that very little information about the next fourth season is available, we do know (thanks to Karl Urban) that filming is planning to begin in the late days of August. Starr and other major participants in the series started posting images of themselves on the way to Toronto, where the series regularly films, sparking rumours that production had officially begun.
Nobody was coming out and saying it, but those of us who were aware of what was going on knew that cameras were about to start rolling. The program’s writers have a wealth of material to draw on as they move ahead into Season 4 of the show. The closing episodes of the season focused heavily on family relations, as Becca Butcher’s (Shantel VanSanten) kid, Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), returned to his psychotic father’s arms after being abandoned by Butcher (Urban).
Since Crovetti has been promoted to a regular character for Season 4, we may assume that there will be many more opportunities for touching father-son moments in the future. Meanwhile, Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, was put on hold at the season’s end, hinting that we could see a lot more of him in the future. Lastly, several of our favourite Supes and Boys are likely to engage in renewed conflict during the current filming season. The cast of Season 4 will include numerous members of The Seven, including Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko. There has been no announcement about the release date or narrative specifics for Season 4 of The Boys.
