Apple TV+ has announced that Julianna Margulies will resume her role as UBA News anchor Laura Peterson on the show The Morning Show. During season two, the fan favourite character caused friction between Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon), eventually becoming Bradley’s romantic interest. Margulies convincingly portrays Laura as an independent woman who knows what she wants. As Season 2 progresses, we witness Laura and Alex put their quarrel from before the series behind them. And when we last saw her, she had already left New York on her way to a ranch in Montana.
She attempts to entice Bradley to come with her by promising a home studio where they can broadcast together. Despite the lack of information about what will happen in Season 3, we can be assured that the announcement will get us through the significant cliffhangers that Season 2 ended on. The show has been praised for its realistic portrayal of its characters and its willingness to tackle serious topics like COVID and cancel culture. Former Mad Men star Jon Hamm has been cast as media tycoon Paul Marks in the show’s upcoming second season, which is now in production. Witherspoon was nominated for an Emmy as the best lead actress in a drama series for the second season, and Billy Crudup and Marcia Gay Harden were both nominated for Emmys as the best-supporting actors in the drama series.
Starring Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley, Desean Terry, Janina Gavankar, and Tom Irwin, among many others, Margulies will be returning to the cast.
Margulies has been nominated for several Emmys and has a rich resume of memorable roles. However, her roles as Carol Hathaway on ER and Alicia Florrick on CBS’ The Good Wife brought her widespread recognition and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
She has guest starred on Billions and starred in the first season of The Hot Zone, both on National Geographic. Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt, a veteran of House of Cards who has worked with Aniston and Witherspoon before, is taking over for Kerry Ehrin this season. Mimi Leder, Michael Ellenberg, Kristin Hahn, and Lauren Neustadter will direct and executive produce. The Morning Show seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on AppleTV+. The premiere of Season 3 has not yet been determined.
