Production on Upgraded, a romantic comedy film from Gulfstream Pictures, has begun, and the film’s two leads, Camila Mendes (Riverdale) and Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), have been cast. Carlson Young, who directed the fantasy horror film The Blazing World, will head the feature film in which Mendes stars and serves as executive producer. The script was written by Christine Lenig, Justin Matthews, and Luke Roberts. In addition to Mendes, the film will feature executive production from Rachel Matthews, Josie Rosen, and Matt Williams.
Fans of Mendes and Renaux’s TV work may be interested in the upcoming romantic comedy Upgraded due to the talent linked to the picture. Ana, played by Mendes, is a trainee at an auction house and a want-to-be artist who, thanks to a chance business trip to London, meets William, played by Renaux, a young, gorgeous, and affluent businessman.
Production on Upgraded is continuing, and while there isn’t much known about the picture at this time, we should be hearing more about the actors in the coming weeks. Producers Mike Karz and Bill Bindley of Gulfstream said, “We are happy to be collaborating with the tremendously talented Camila Mendes, Carlson Young, and Archie Renaux, as they draw back the curtain on the art world in this entertaining and engaging romantic comedy.”
In addition to Upgraded, Mendes will soon be seen in the Netflix dark comedy Do Revenge, which will premiere on the service on September 19. Renaux will have a starring role in Amazon Studios’ Catherine Called Birdy, a mediaeval comedy set to release later this year. The actor also has a role in The Greatest Beer Run Ever, which will premiere at TIFF this September before hitting theatres later that month. With One Fast Move starring KJ Apa and The Other Zoey having recently wrapped principal filming and Renaux signed to star, Upgraded is the third production this year sponsored under Gulfstream. There is currently no specific release date for Upgraded as work is still in its early phases.
