Netflix’s official Twitter page has just posted four new pictures from Mike Flanagan’s forthcoming horror-mystery series, The Midnight Club. In The Midnight Club, we follow a group of young patients at an unnamed hospice as they share terrifying tales at the witching hour. The show is based on Christopher Pike’s young adult novel of the same name, which was adapted by Flanagan and Leah Fong.
Heather Langenkamp, known for her role as the mysterious facility administrator in Nightmare on Elm Street, joins the likes of Iman Benson, Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Cymone, William Chris Sumpter, and Sauriyan Sapkota in The Midnight Club. The new photos for The Midnight Club really show off the leads. In one picture, the actors are all gazing straight at the camera, but in the others, they appear to be in action. A character utilising a rotary phone with tears in his eyes as other characters appear to be screaming and maimed in the background is a particularly unsettling sight.
This might be a campy homage to classic kids’ horror programmes like Are You Afraid of the Dark?, with some mature undertones a la Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy, if the photos are any indication. The Midnight Club’s inaugural season will consist of 10 episodes. Flanagan, the maestro of modern horror, directs the first two episodes, while Axelle Carolyn, Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour, Michael Fimognari, Morgan Beggs, and Viet Nguyen direct the rest.
The Midnight Club’s executive producers are Mike Flanagan, Alan Fong, Christopher Pike, Trevor Macy, and Julia Bicknell. The show’s regular cast also includes Zach Gilford, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, Larsen Thompson, William B. Davis, Crystal Balint, and Patricia Drake. Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House, and their sequel, The Haunting of Bly Manor, were all produced by Flanagan for Netflix. Oculus, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald’s Game, and Doctor Sleep are just a few of the significant films he directed.
Flanagan has two new Netflix projects, The Fall of the House of Usher and Something is Killing the Children, that he will be working on when The Midnight Club is out. Another of Pike’s novels that Flanagan will adapt for the big screen is The Season of Passage.
