Popular on Hulu, Ramy is a comedy-drama about a first-generation American Muslim played by Ramy Youseff. Releases of the first two seasons were met with widespread critical praise, and now a premiere date for the third season has been announced. According to Hulu, Season 3 of Ramy will launch on September 30 and consist of 10 episodes.
The Hassan family, originally from Egypt but now residents of New Jersey, will once again be followed as they make the transition to life in the United States in season three. “this brings a fresh viewpoint to the screen as it explores the issues of what it’s like to be stuck between a religious society who believes life is a moral test, and a millennial age that doubts an afterlife even exists,” Hulu stated of the upcoming third season. Season 3 will concentrate on Ramy’s family’s adaptation to his decision to abandon spirituality in favour of his uncle’s diamond company. In the popular show, Youseff plays the role of Ramy Hassan.
The cast of characters he encounters along the road includes his uncle Naseem (Laith Nakli), mother Maysa (Hiam Abbass), father Farouk (Amr Waked), sister Dena (May Calamawy), and buddies Mo (Mohammed Amer) and Ahmed (Mohamed Amer) (Dave Merheje). Bella Hadid, a well-known model, will make her acting debut in Season 3 in some capacity. Even though Season 2 of Ramy premiered in May of 2020, many have been waiting patiently for Season 3.
Youseff originally developed the series to rectify the negative representation of Muslims in mainstream American culture. Youseff and Emmy-nominated comedian Jerrod Carmichael serve as executive producers. Youseff is not just the show’s creator, but also its director and writer. Youseff is now working on several other projects, of which Ramy is but one. Included in this category is Mo, a show he and Mo Amer developed. On August 24th, Netflix will debut a new comedy series about a Palestinian refugee experiencing culture shock in the United States. Youseff is also developing an unnamed animated series on Islamic culture for Prime Video, although no release date has been set as of yet.
Synopsis
Ramy Hassan (Youssef) is a first-generation Egyptian-American, and the series follows his family as they try to find their way spiritually while living in a politically divided section of New Jersey. Ramy continues to offer a fresh point of view to the screen as it examines the difficulties of being stuck between a religious group that sees life as a moral test and a generation that questions the existence of heaven or hell. While Ramy has very well given up on his spiritual quest in favour of him and his uncle’s diamond company, his family is confronted in the third season with the reality of having spent their lives focused on material concerns (and in some cases, falsehoods).
