Since mangaka Gege Akutami is notorious for frequently utilising significant character deaths as a motivation for character evolution, fans were understandably concerned about Maki’s fate in Chapter 193. Readers’ concerns have shifted to Noritoshi Kamo after seeing raw scans for the next chapter 194, which also expands on the mechanics of Naoya Zenin’s new cursed technique.
Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 194
The fourth instalment of the Sakurajima Colony saga is the title of chapter 194. The raw images have been released online in a disorganised fashion, but the leaked spoilers have allowed fans to piece together the story’s main arc. Those who were surprised to see Naoya physically dominate and seriously injure Maki may relax now. Even though she is hurt, Maki is seen to be alive in the opening few manga panels, with Noritoshi protecting her from Naoya. After some deliberation, Maki reveals that she needs five minutes to recover from her wounds and the two of them agree to a time limit.
To which Maki replies, “Two out of eight is good enough for me,” referencing the odds of victory that Noritoshi gives her in this bout. More and more manga pages have been released, showing Naoya and Noritoshi’s confrontation heating up as Noritoshi wastes time. The spoilers suggest that Noritoshi has suffered serious injuries, and the cursed spirit Naoya is analysing his Blood Manipulation method while musing that Noritoshi is likely to die soon. In the preview, Noritoshi figures out that Naoya’s cursed technique is linked to his developed form, with the latter’s speed being proportionate to the hardness of his armour.
Spoilers for chapter 194 reveal that he has been thinking a lot about his mother and his early life and that this has strengthened his will to fight even if he is severely hurt.
Leaked artwork from the final page of chapter 194 of Jujutsu Kaisen features two men engaging in a fight, with one of them referencing sumo wrestling and the other a katana sword. Both of the new protagonists will definitely make their debut in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 194.
Finally, some thoughts
The two new participants in the Culling Game appear to be a part of the continuing Sakurajima Colony story arc, as suggested by the chapter’s title in Jujutsu Kaisen. Fans have noted that the 2:8 odds Noritoshi provides Maki really amounts to a 1:4 probability of victory. Given that there appear to be five people in the colony right now, only one of them may make it. In that case, this arc will be similar to the Sendai Colony arc, in which four people were at a stalemate before Yuta broke the impasse. Noritoshi probably wouldn’t make it through a one-on-one fight with Naoya at this point. If he can hold out for five minutes, maybe Maki will have a chance to deliver the killing blow. Naoya’s curse has morphed from a worm or larvae-like structure to that of a butterfly still in its cocoon, suggesting that he may be capable of further evolution.
