Ariana DeBose, a star in West Side Story, has won yet another role. The upcoming psychological thriller House of Spoils will star the actress, as was just confirmed by Prime Video and Blumhouse Television. The movie is the result of Amazon and Blumhouse’s ongoing cooperation, which began with the production of this picture. In House of Spoils, DeBose plays a chef who, on a sprawling estate, launches a “farm-to-table extravaganza.” The exhilaration of starting a new business is tempered by the reality that the chef must deal with “kitchen chaos, a doubtful investor, and crushing self-doubts.”
In addition, the estate’s former owner’s ghost is only interested in causing trouble. While DeBose has been in the business for quite some time, her current role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story has propelled her to stardom. Both the reviewers and the general public were impressed by her performance. When she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, she made history as the first out lesbian woman of colour to do so. DeBose previously portrayed Alyssa in the Netflix film adaptation of The Prom.
In addition to her current role in Westworld: Season 2 on HBO, she has appeared in many episodes of Schmigadoon! on Apple TV. Kraven the Hunter and Two and Only are two of her future films. The idea for House of Spoils was created by the film’s writers and directors, sisters Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy. Blumhouse Television president Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold serve as executive producers.
Producers include Jason Blum of Blumhouse, Alex Scharfman, Lucas Joaquin, and Drew Houpt of Secret Engine, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath of Divide/Conquer. Amazon Studios’ head of films Julie Rapaport shared her enthusiasm for the picture, saying:
“We’ve been fans of Bridget and Danielle’s distinct filmmaking voice ever since ‘Blow the Man Down,’ and we knew we had to be a part of whatever they were doing. It’s a dream come true to have their intriguing storyline paired with Ariana’s great ability, and we can’t wait to share this narrative with our global audience.”
For McCumber: “We can’t wait to watch Ariana in a part that requires none of the Oscar-winning freshness, boldness, and personality that garnered her the Academy Award. Bridget and Danielle are a brilliant filming duo, so both actors and directors can expect top-notch results.”
House of Spoils is set to begin filming this next fall. There is no set date for the release, but it will debut on Prime Video in more than 240 regions throughout the world.
