Last month, Apple TV+ unveiled a video and poster for Surfside Girls, a feel-good adventure series that will launch this Friday. The streamer has just released an exclusive short highlighting the chemistry of two distinct personalities. A savvy young lady and a ghost who is urgently attempting to regain corporeal form. The show revolves around two pals who set out on a treasure quest and come into contact with far more fantastical artefacts than they ever bargained for. This preview shows that Surfside Girls is a comedy that’s suitable for the whole family, with jokes that are both easy and safe.
According to the promotional material, Jade (Miya Cech) and Sam’s (YaYa Gosselin) search for a hidden treasure would lead them to meet a nice ghost that wants to help them but continues passing through solid objects. Santi (Spencer Hermes-Rebello) is planning to remain out of trouble, but then he has this unexpected development where he can instantly touch anything. Furthermore, Jade makes a breakthrough thanks to the shift in Santi’s perspective on inorganic matter.
Since the young girl is determined to uncover a scientific explanation for ghosts, she is thrilled when the liquid next to the indisputable ghost changes colour, since this indicates that there is chemistry involved in Santi’s ability to grab a large shell, and a breakthrough may be on the horizon. Kim Dwinell’s Surfside Girls graphic novel series was published by IDW, and the show is based on those books. May Chan, the recipient of a Writers Guild of America Award (for American Girl: Corinne Tan and The Astronauts), is the showrunner. She is not only adapting the story, but also writing it, executive producing it, and co-developing it with Alex Diaz and Julie Sagalowsky Diaz (The Shannara Chronicles, What’s Up, Warthogs!). The executive producer and director of the first two episodes are America Young (Roswell, New Mexico, Legacies).
On August 19th, Apple TV+ will debut Surfside Girls.
Synopsis
In “Surfside Girls,” played by Miya Cech and YaYa Gosselin, two friends named Jade and Sam are pumped to spend the summer surfing and lounging in the sun. Up until, that is, they encounter a ghost. The ladies plunge headfirst into the mystery of a sunken pirate ship and the cursed riches said to lurk beneath Surfside’s beautiful Danger Point bluff. Sam is eager to free a pirate spirit named Remi from his curse, while Jade is set on discovering a rationale for the supernatural. Both Sam and Jade will need to use their creative and logical thinking skills to unravel the mystery. Together, they will piece together the clues, figure out the mystery, and preserve Surfside (and maybe even aid a few ghostly pirates).
