The first trailer for MGM’s upcoming romantic comedy About Fate has been released, promising a humorous and touching experience for moviegoers later this year. The picture will premiere in select theatres and digital everywhere on September 9. In the opening of the trailer, we see Griffin (Thomas Mann) and Margot (Emma Roberts) contrasting their morning rituals before leaving the house. The scene shifts to Madelaine Petsch, who plays Griffin’s girlfriend, pressuring Griffin to pop the question.
In contrast, we also see Lewis Tan’s Kip, who plays Margot’s boyfriend, breaking up with her the night before her sister’s wedding. Now that our two protagonists are at odds with one another, fate brings them together when Margot enters her home and finds Griffin there. Margot begs Griffin to accompany her to the wedding after they both end up there due to a mix-up over their similar-sounding addresses. After Griffin pretends to be Kip in front of Margot’s family, the video switches to a montage of the two getting to know each other and developing a strong friendship at the wedding. When the real Kip unexpectedly appears at the wedding, much to Margot’s dismay, he and Griffin get into a brawl that highlights the film’s humorous side as they try to escape ruining the wedding cake.
The trailer continues the montage to highlight how Margot and Griffin growing attraction to one other, and it concludes with a humorous scene of the two robbings in a store together.
