The legendary Boulet Brothers have signed up with Shudder, making a formidable team. According to Variety, the terrifying duo have signed on to expand their brand after the tremendous success of their fourth season of The Boulet Brothers Dragula: Search for the World’s Next Drag Supermonster on AMC’s horror-centric streaming service. This means that the stunning scares and gorgeous gore given up by the candidates fighting tooth and nail for the title of Supermonster will increase even more. In order to continue their horror-themed drag competition, Dragula for a fifth season hosts Dracmorda and Swanthula Boulet have signed a deal with AMC and Shudder.
The two LGBT icons were certain to reap what they sowed when the show’s fourth season became one of Shudder’s most viewed shows of 2021. The newly signed contract guarantees not just a fifth season, but also a spinoff series “and an additional special set to appear on Shudder over the following twelve months.” According to reports, the Boulet Brothers’ upcoming spinoff series based on their reality show Dragula would have a whole season’s worth of original content.
Filming for the new show is complete, and it will air this autumn. The Boulet Brothers are confident their exciting new partnership will delight their audience beyond their wildest dreams, proclaiming: “Now is an amazing time to be a Dragula supporter. By joining up with Shudder (and the AMC family), we have a fantastic chance to provide fans with more of the storylines, characters, and actors they’ve come to love over the years. For as startled and involved as our followers may have been by our previous content, they have no idea what’s in store for them now. This brand-new rollercoaster promises to be both thrilling and horrifying.”
Back in 2016, when the two-party superstars initially brought the series to life on YouTube, Dragula was the Frankenstein-brainchild of them both. The Boulet Brothers carried their real challenge, which was based on their nightclub pageant of the same name, all the way through the streaming service maze, starting with Amazon Prime and ending up on Netflix before settling on Shudder in 2021. AMC’s horror fans and those interested in the paranormal found a home on Shudder, and so did Dragula.
As recently as May’s The Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, the villainous pair made an appearance. Craig Engler, the general manager of Shudder, had nothing but praise for the Boulet Brothers “The Boulet Brothers have established themselves as exceptional producers and storytellers with the success of “The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula” and “The Boulet Brothers’ Resurrection,” two shows that successfully blend genres and garner a sizable fanbase. And in 2023, there will be even more competitions thanks to our partnership with them.” On Dragula, eleven expert contestants known as monsters face off in a battle to the death to see who can best display their skills in costume design, special effects makeup, and live performance.
Similar to Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Dragula features wacky challenges and famous judges to encourage its participants to go above and beyond for the chance to win a cash reward and the prestigious title of Supermonster. The more bizarre the outfits, the better, or else they will be wiped away. The Boulet Brothers and Nathan Noyes write, produce, and direct the Shudder series. AMC’s Shudder now hosts all four seasons of Dragula.
