The Live-Action ‘Green Lantern’ Series Is Alive and Well on HBO The Situation of Max at Warner Bros.

In spite of the Warner-Discovery merger and the cancellation of Batgirl and other DC shows, TVLine reports that fans can be confident that Green Lantern will continue to appear on DC’s future slate. This idea is “very much alive,” according to an HBO Max representative. Greg Berlanti, who has worked on shows for The CW including The Flash, and Marc Guggenheim, who co-created the smash hit series Arrow, will be executive producing and co-writing the new project, which is presently in production as a television series.

As far as we can tell, Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story) will be Guy Gardner, the original Green Lantern. Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), who was said to be in consideration for the role of Alan Scott, has now dropped out. The premiere date of the show is still a mystery, although TVLine has pegged it for the year 2024. In spite of the termination of multiple projects following the merger between Warner Media and Discovery, it looks that Green Lantern still has a place in DC’s future.

Following the startling cancellation of Batgirl, the Warner-Discovery Merger has claimed another victim: Kevin Smith (Clerks) was attached to co-write and direct Strange Adventures. The cancellation of Batgirl, which had already begun production, disappointed many fans, but they need not lose faith in future DC films. In addition to the news that Green Lantern is still in production, a new entry in the Entertainment Identifier Registry suggests that Season 4 of Harley Quinn is also still in the works.

Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods all have sequels in the works for this year, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Flash, and Blue Beetle are all scheduled for release in the near future. The 2011 film Green Lantern, featuring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, was the last live-action appearance of the DC Comics superhero. The picture underperformed at the box office & was met with disapproval by audiences and reviewers alike. In the DCEU, a reboot dubbed Green Lantern Corps was in the works for a 2020 release, but there are no updates on the progress of the project.

Now that we know the TV show is still in development, fans can rest certain that it won’t be too long until they can once again see their favourite superhero on the small screen. No other casting or filming scheduling announcements have been made since the forthcoming Green Lantern movie is still in its early production stages.
