Over the past several years, Apple TV+ has been a runaway success. Fans have been flocking to the streaming service in droves because of a wide variety of award-winning shows including the hilarious Ted Lasso and the suspenseful Shining Girls. Furthermore, the network has revealed that two A-list actors would be joining their new dramedy series, Land of Women.
Cast alongside Carmen Maura of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria will take the lead in the six-episode family drama. Land of Women is an adaptation of the same-named novel by Sandra Barneda, and Longoria will play a major role in Gala. Gala, a prosperous New Yorker, has been experiencing the sting of empty nest syndrome as her children take great advances toward maturity. But when her husband’s financial misdeeds become public knowledge, the world, while less interesting without a full home, swiftly changes.
Gala, her mother (Maura), and her college-aged daughter are all forced to leave the city due to Gala’s husband’s unlawful business dealings. When Gala learns that her husband has become involved with a ruthless and relentless gang of criminals, she has no alternative but to seek safety in the one place her mother has always vowed never to visit again: a beautiful but little hamlet in the wine region of northern Spain. When the three friends go to a small town to hide from their pursuers, they quickly learn that small-town life is full of gossipers who are eager to learn as much as they can about the newcomers.
Land of Women will be recorded in both English and Spanish, which is a pretty cool and unique approach for Apple to increase viewership, as most shows only use one language and give subtitles for people who don’t know that language.
Showrunner Ramón Campos is adapting Gema R. Neira’s book into a television series. Longoria will not only feature in the film but also executive produce alongside Ben Spector and Teresa Fernández-Valdés under her production company, UnbeliEVAble Entertainment. The director is Carlos Sedes, who created the drama series Faria (Cocaine Coast). The TV show is about to begin filming in Spain. Longoria is partnering up with CNN to give viewers a tour of Mexico, in addition to her work on Land of Women. In Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico, the actress will show the colourful traditions of Mexico to viewers throughout the world. Longoria also had a cameo in the April premiere of Unplugging, a comedy produced by Vertical Entertainment. A trailer is available for your viewing pleasure down below. There is currently no scheduled release date for Land of Women. co
