Netflix has released new photos from the upcoming fifth season of the popular Karate Kid spinoff series Cobra Kai. The newest images show Sean Kanan, who last appeared in The Karate Kid III, reprising his role as Mike Barnes. Considering how Season 4 concluded, it is not surprising that the new pictures show a large number of new Cobra Kai students. The Miyagi-Do Karate dojo was forced to permanently close when the Cobra Kai dojo won the All Valley Tournament in the season finale. Cobra Kai’s director, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), has taken his “no compassion” ethos and franchised his dojo all across Los Angeles, which is bad enough.
The new photos also include the return of Danny LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who are armed and ready to instruct the next generation of martial artists outside of traditional dojos. This season, the two former Karate Kid adversaries will work together to remove Terry Silver from the Cobra Kai and prevent him from poisoning the brains of young people. The new pictures also show Kanan as “Karate’s Bad Boy,” Mike Barnes.
A vicious martial artist, Mike Barnes is recruited by Terry to intimidate Danny out of the All Valley Tournament in The Karate Kid III. Mike threatens Danny’s loved ones and even goes after Mr Miyagi, a character he despises, in the film (Pat Morita). Because of Mike and Terry’s unethical and potentially deadly actions in and out of the ring, the Cobra Kai dojo is permanently barred from the competition, a decision that Johnny sadly assisted in reversing. Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg are the brains behind and pen the scripts for Cobra Kai.
Cast members include Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Mariduea, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Vanessa Rubio, Peyton List, Martin Kove, Dallas Dupree Young, Oona O’Brien, and Griffin Santopietro can be seen in the show as well. On September 9th, Netflix will debut Season 5 of Cobra Kai.
