The Netflix cancellation train keeps on rolling. Sadly, the streaming service has announced that season two of the adult animated comedy Q-Force will not be produced. This comes after the streaming service recently cancelled the vampire drama First Kill.
Writer/actor Matt Rogers (Twink’s voice) disclosed the show’s termination on an episode of the Attitudes! podcast. To the fans who had followed him from his days on Q-Force, he said, “It was fantastic; I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
It was a blast to make someone happy. Those who liked it appreciated it greatly, and the good news is that it will be available on Netflix indefinitely. Although it was not renewed for a second season, the show still exists.” There were conflicting opinions regarding the show, despite the lack of information about why it was cancelled. The programme had a 78 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting that casual viewers were more likely to appreciate and acclaim it. Numerous bad reviews were written about Q-Force, with critics saying the show failed to live up to expectations.
Many viewers, however, praised the series for its humorous and inclusive portrayal of the LGBTQ community. The final Rotten Tomatoes score for the programme was 29 per cent due to negative reviews. Thus, it is likely that the decision was based on low viewing as a result of a negative reaction to the show’s premiere. The first season of Q-Force debuted about a year ago in September of 2021. Steve Maryweather (Sean Hayes) was presented to the audience as a popular member of the American Intelligence Agency (AIA) who was eventually forced to resign after coming out as gay.
After that, he was sent off to West Hollywood, where he would serve no purpose. Steve, on his own, rounded together a group of LGBTQ+ geniuses to establish a squad they nickname Q-Force because they lack the resources of the official Q-Force. Steve was determined to prove the AIA wrong by leading the squad to success even after it denied them assignments. Patti Harrison played Stat, Wanda Sykes played Deb, David Harbour played Rick, Gary Cole played Director Dirk Chunley, and Laurie Metcalf played V in Q-Force with Rogers and Hayes.
There were also guest appearances and regular roles for actors including Stephanie Beatriz, Eric Bauza, Niecy Nash, and Fortune Feimster. Gabe Liedman (Big Mouth, PEN15), who also voices Benji, developed, wrote, executive produced, and shown the 10-episode series, with Hayes, Mike Schur, Todd Milliner, and David Miner. Production of the series was a collaborative effort by Universal Television, Hazy Mills, Fremulon, and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Q-Force may be viewed immediately on Netflix.
