The job of a police officer is challenging enough without having to deal with serial killers on top of everything else. Netflix has published a teaser for the second season of the Indian crime drama Delhi Crime. Shefali Shah, who plays DCP Vartika Chaturvedi on the International Emmy Award–winning series, will be back to crack down on crime in the South District. According to the teaser for the upcoming season of the crime drama, Chaturvedi will be working to stop the bloodshed being unleashed on her city by a group of serial killers known for their distinctive methods of murder.
At the beginning of the trailer, Chaturvedi, aka Madam Sir, discusses the lopsided population and economic distribution in the city of Delhi. The unhealthy equilibrium is acknowledged as hampering the enforcement of the city. Despite being woefully outnumbered, Madam Sir and her policemen are determined to solve the citywide murders that keep occurring. This new season will hopefully reveal a softer and more human aspect of these law enforcement professionals as they do their daily work.
The current season’s criminal organisation appears to have been inspired by the notorious Kachcha-banian gang, which operated in the 1970s and 1980s in several regions of Northern India. According to Deadline, Shah has discussed what it’s been like to play this part and what fans can expect in the upcoming season. I quote Shah: And while I have enjoyed playing each and every one of my roles, Vartika Chaturvedi will always hold a special place in my heart. Both the character and the play itself have given me a great sense of accomplishment, and I couldn’t be happier. That one always gets my vote for best. So is she, in fact. Playing this kind of character is rewarding for actors. Viewers will get a glimpse of the personal and vulnerable side of these seasoned police officers this season. I think the audience is going to love “Delhi Crime,’ because it reflects our love of storytelling and the art form, and we made it with our hearts.
Season one of Delhi Crime centred on the 2012 gang rape that made headlines across the world and the accompanying investigation by the Delhi police. Richie Mehta is responsible for developing the show. Tanuj Chopra, the show’s executive producer and director, is in charge of Season 2. Chopra has hinted at the challenges that lie in store for Madam Sir and her officers in the upcoming season. Along with Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain, Anurag Arora, Yashaswini Dayama, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Gopal Dutt, Denzil Smith, Tillotama Shome, Jatin Goswami, Vyom Yadav, and Ankit Sharma are featured in the series. Mayank Tewari, Shubhra Swarup, Vidit Tripathi, Ensia Mirza, Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh, and Virat Basoya are the series’ writers. The second season of Delhi Crime returns to Netflix on August 26.
