After nearly ten years on the air, The Flash is finally ending. It was rumoured only several days ago that the forthcoming ninth season of the Arrowverse programme is likely to be it’s final on the CW. The CW has been doing some housecleaning in recent months, cancelling a number of series, so this is to be expected. Other shows that have been cancelled are Batwoman, Legacies, Legends of Tomorrow, and Naomi. The good news is that with the wisdom of foresight, The Flash will go out on its own terms, & hopefully with a bang. The actor, Grant Gustin who plays the titular character, revealed as much while addressing the news of the show’s coming demise. Gustin termed the announcement “bittersweet” while thanking fans, the cast, and the crew for their support, saying that the programme has only gone on as long as it has because of the love of the people.
In his emotive message, the actor also stated that his years playing the renowned role had been an “incredible” experience, and he was “honoured to be linked with this character” for the rest of his life and career. For the forthcoming season, Gustin expressed thanks for the fact The Flash would “finish on our terms”, while also voicing enthusiasm to return to the character “one more time”, adding that he will “enjoy making [the season]”. Grant’s social media post included the message “Thank you to all our Flash fans who helped allow us to go this far,” which simply recalled the feeling his video also communicated.
Let’s go one more run together.” As already said, news of The Flash ending was not anticipated. But despite the CW’s comprehensive revamp, Gustin’s 15-episode deal for Season 9 was a strong signal of what was to come. Nevertheless, going on to become one of the longest-running CW shows at the present, and the longest-running Arrowverse show is surely a triumph for the series. The Flash, which began in 2014, featured Barry Allen who was hit by lightning and given the power of super speed, becoming the fastest man alive & the superhero – The Flash.
He employs his enhanced talents to safeguard Central City and the people he cares about. As soon as it was out, the series became a hit with fans, which has contributed to its continued success. The show’s respect for its source material and its humorous tone was commended in an era when superhero stories were increasingly being darkened. The series had an ensemble cast that included Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet, & more.
Stephen Amell, Caity Lotz, Emily Bett Rickards, & Melissa Benoist, to mention a few, were just a few of the Arrowverse regulars that appeared on the programme during its run. The cancellation is sad news, as Gustin admitted, but it will be intriguing to watch how the critically acclaimed series wraps out its run when the final season premieres next year.
