New series like Ms Marvel and movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has proven to be substantial financial successes for Marvel Studios, allowing them to expand the MCU aggressively. Fans got some answers concerning the future of Phases 4, 5, and 6 of what is now called “The Multiverse Saga” at San Diego Comic-Con last month. There are eight slots available in Phase 6, with Fantastic Four being one of the more prominent titles.
Iconic actor Giancarlo Esposito may have just thrown his hat into the ring for a seat in the MCU, however we still have no idea who will be in the new rendition of Marvel’s founding family or what the other eight projects will be alongside the next two Avengers flicks. In an appearance at this weekend’s JTH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio, Texas, Esposito allegedly said, “I’ve been in a room and talked” about joining the MCU, as reported by AV Club. He wouldn’t say what role he was discussing, but he did say that others have approached him about playing villains like Magneto and Doctor Doom.
However, the actor claimed that if he had his choice, he would rather play a heroic character like Professor X. Esposito has built a career on portraying antagonists, such recognisable roles as Gus Fring on Breaking Bad, Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian, and Antón Castillo in the video game Far Cry 6. It’s easy to see why Esposito would prefer to play a hero in the MCU. An actor’s longevity depends on his or her ability to keep their roles interesting, and this actor is no exception. Despite the fact that Esposito would be a fantastic candidate for Professor X, I think he would be much better as Doctor Doom.
Esposito has the heft and gravitas required to play this multifaceted mutant, much like Patrick Stewart, who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Multiverse of Madness.
It seems logical that Esposito would be in discussions for a part in the studio’s X-Men adaptation, what with Multiverse of Madness and Ms Marvel gradually bringing the notion of Mutants to the MCU.
If the actor is cast, it will be fascinating to watch if Esposito joins the X-Men or the Fantastic Four, and whether he takes the side of the heroes or the villains. Disney’s D23 is in exactly one month, so fans will find out whether Esposito will be part of the MCU. As the event’s title suggests, Marvel will be present in force, bringing with it no doubt a slew of mind-blowing revelations. You can watch anything Marvel right now on Disney+ as we wait to discover if Giancarlo Esposito will play Professor X, Magneto, or Doctor Doom.
