Insidious, directed by James Wan, is consistently mentioned among the top modern horror films. Over a decade later, in July of 2019, Insidious 5 will return to the horror genre for another round of terrifying thrills, and now we have some major casting news on the highly awaited sequel. Peter Dager, Sinclair Daniel, and Hiam Abbass have reportedly joined the cast of the fifth chapter in unspecified roles, and filming on the picture is set to begin soon, as reported by Deadline. Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Ty Simpkins will also reprise their roles as series regulars. Since the movie was announced, we’ve known that Dalton (Simpkin) would be attending university, but now we have a better idea of what happens. Here is how we got back to The Further: Following the events of Insidious 2, Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) travels east to drop off his son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) at a beautiful, ivy-covered institution.
This is 10 years after the events of Insidious 2. College was Dalton’s dream, but his old demons come back to haunt him and his newfound friends. Although the identities of these demons remain shrouded in mystery, it’s possible that old favourites like “The Bride in Black,” “The Woman in White,” and “The Man with the Fire on His Face” may make a wicked return. These were the memorable demons from the first two Insidious movies and the sad events of the Lambert family’s lives. University life and the horror genre are like peanut butter and jelly.
That winning mix, set against the franchise’s established history and artistic flair, helps set this sequel apart from its predecessors. While Dager, Daniel, and Abbass may be unfamiliar to the general public, Daniel has been on hit programmes like The Good Fight and Bull, while Abbass has been an established actor for almost 30 years. Later this year, you may catch her in the new iteration of Hellraiser. Her other credits include Blade Runner 2049, Munich (also directed by Steven Spielberg), and the critically acclaimed series Succession.
It will be fascinating to see what they all offer to the series, but the fact that Wilson is directing this sequel is perhaps the most intriguing aspect of it. The beloved genre actor is making his directorial debut after years as genre royalty in films such as The Conjuring, Insidious, and the undervalued Netflix gem In the Tall Grass. The excitement of horror lovers has been piqued, and this may be just what the brand needs to regain its former prominence.
The series has been a huge financial success for Sony and Blumhouse, earning over $550 million throughout the world. Insidious 5 has the makings of another box office smash, with a narrative from series co-creator Leigh Whannell and a screenplay by Scott Teems. On July 7, 2023, moviegoers will be able to see Insidious 5 in cinemas.
