Marc Spector/Stephen Grant (Oscar Isaac) appeared to be returning to television screens after the first season of Marvel’s Moon Knight series ended on a dramatic cliffhanger. The introduction of a new persona for the protagonist created several opportunities for the tale to progress and establish links to the larger MCU. Fans of the series may breathe a sigh of relief, as it appears that the protagonist will be featured in a follow-up film. Although it hasn’t been confirmed by Disney+, Isaac did make an appearance on a TikTok by Mohammed Diab, which strongly implies that a second season is in the works.
Isaac asks on TikTok, “Why else would we be in Cairo if we weren’t wondering if Moon Knight would receive a second season?” Diab apparently doubled down on the idea by tweeting a link to TikTok. If the rumour of a comeback is real, it goes against everything that has been inferred from sources outside of the show’s canon. Since Variety reported that Isaac did not have a long-term contract to appear in the MCU, a new agreement would be necessary, most likely with an increased salary in light of the show’s critical acclaim.
Although it never explicitly said Isaac couldn’t come back, it did imply he wasn’t supposed to be a regular part of the MCU. In addition, Disney never gave the series the same kind of support that they had given to projects like WandaVision and Loki. So far, it appears like Marvel’s future plans are solely focused on creating shows centred on characters from the MCU.
The new season of Moon Knight may theoretically fit into one of the future Phase 6 timeline’s empty slots, setting the series on course to join the wider MCU. Marc Spector and Stephen Grant, two very different alters, were caught up in a larger mystery involving the gods of Egypt and the story culminated in May. May Calamawy also appears in the series as Layla El-Faouly, also known as the Scarlet Scarab.
Overall, audiences seemed to like the show even though it starred a well-known superhero who had already appeared in other media. With Isaac’s strong portrayal capturing the many ways in which Marc and Stephen are different, the show brought a sense of mystery and grit to Disney+’s roster of superhero series that was lacking from Marvel’s other characters. At this time, Disney has not confirmed that this will truly take place.
