Bond girl Lashana Lynch has joined the cast of the upcoming unnamed Bob Marley movie. Lynch, who was last seen in No Time to Die, will portray Rita Marley, Bob Marley’s adored wife. The casting crew looked far and wide to find the right actress to play Rita, and they prioritised finding someone who looks and sounds like Rita and is also from Jamaica. Lynch, who was born in England but had Jamaican ancestry, had great chemistry reads with Kingsley Ben-Adir, who was cast as the film’s lead actor.
Lynch’s casting has received the blessing of Rita Marley and the rest of the Marley family. Reinaldo Marcus Green is set to helm a biopic on Bob Marley, the late great reggae artist. The critically praised sports biopic King Richard, released last year, and the recently aired HBO limited series We Own This City are two of Green’s most notable works as a director.
