Actor, screenwriter, and director Jay Chandrasekhar talked about his other planned projects while promoting his latest comedy film Easter Sunday. Unlike his latest film, Metal Shop Masters, which tells the story of stand-up comedian Jo Koy, the filmmaker’s following two films take place in radically different–and surreal–settings. As a member of Broken Lizard, Chandrasekhar is responsible for masterpieces like Freeloaders and Super Troopers, as well as The Dukes Of Hazzard & Freeloaders. Steve Weintraub couldn’t resist asking about one of the future releases during the conversation.
Everyone wants to know more about Super Troopers 3: Winter Soldiers, which was announced a long time ago, but there’s still no information out there. He emphasised that the film is not dead and that “it’s going to happen,” as he put it. The bad news is that we have to wait a long time before learning more: The machine will be started when we have finished draught seven and are roughly twenty draughts into the project. […] “Super Troopers 2,” on the other hand, had thirty-two draughts written before it was finished.
It’s all part of the job. […] Several story threads will be discarded and then reintroduced after the reorganisation. It’s a long process, but finally, we reach our goal,” he continues. The director of the forthcoming Quasi, a Hunchback of Notre Dame parody film, also gave us a taste of what to anticipate from the film.
This is a narrative about a hunchback caught in the middle of a conflict between the Pope & the King of France, both of whom want him to murder the other. Fans are eagerly awaiting the film because it is the first time the Broken Lizard comedy trio has collaborated since the release of Super Troopers 2 in 2018. It was Chandrasekhar’s opinion that Quasi, a film that we did, is out there. I’ll tell you about it.” Hulu is releasing a 13th-century French… in December. It’s like murder, assassination, and mystery all rolled into one. Paul Soter portrays the Pope and Steve Lemme portrays a hunchback in my role as the King of France. Also, it’s a huge worldwide event… In the tradition of “Monty Python,”
Even though the film was shot on a shoestring budget in 2001, the first Super Troopers was a surprise box office smash. After a successful crowdfunding effort, Broken Lizard decided to give the sequel another go–and hopefully, it won’t take them another 20 years to get it made. August 5th is the release date for Easter Sunday.
