In November of last year, it was reported that Jake Gyllenhaal was in discussions to feature in a remake of the Patrick Swayze film Road House. Now that the news is confirmed, Gyllenhaal will join Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, and others in the film. In addition, Amazon Prime Video has announced that the movie will be available for streaming.
Even though critics didn’t like the initial 1989 picture, it has subsequently become a classic. Fans of the late Patrick Swayze frequently consider this action comedy to be one of his greatest. As a bouncer at a pub in Missouri, Swayze guarantees that a local businessman’s fury falls on the town’s shoulders.
After being employed as a bouncer at the Florida Keys’ “rough-and-tumble roadhouse” by an ex-UFC fighter, Gyllenhaal soon discovers that his new home is everything from paradise. Oscar-winning actor Jake Gyllenhaal is recognised for his work in films such as “Donnie Darko,” “Break back Mountain,” and “Nightcrawler.” Ambulance and Spider-Man: Far from Home are two of his most recent flicks; he will next appear in Guy Ritchie’s thriller The Interpreter. Co-stars for the film’s adaptation have also been revealed. No Time To Die, Game Night and The Big Short are some of Magnussen’s best-known works. The critically-acclaimed television series Made for Love has also just cast him in a leading role. Since her debut in The Suicide Squad, Melchior has been cast in films like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Fast X, which will be released in the near future.
Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp, and Bob Menery round out the remainder of the announced cast. Doug Liman, the director of Edge of Tomorrow, Mr. & Mrs Smith, and The Bourne Identity will helm the Road House adaptation. Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry wrote the screenplay.
Aside from the critically acclaimed The Nice Guy, Bagarozzi and his writing partner Robert Downey Jr. are now working on the script for Shane Black and Robert Downey Jr.’s next feature Play Dirty. An executive production team of JJ Hook, Alison Winter, and Aaron Auch joins Joel Silver on the project as well as Silver himself. Jennifer Salke, the CEO of Amazon Studios, had this to say about the film’s upcoming release on Prime Video: “Road House is a slam dunk. Fans of the original film will be pleased with this new adaptation, which is both entertaining and family-friendly. To work with Joel, Doug, and this fantastic ensemble, including Jake Gyllenhaal, and to reinvent the iconic MGM picture as an action-packed adventure for our worldwide audience, is a dream come true for us.”
Liman also had something to say: In a way, it’s an honour for me to add my personal stamp to the storied Road House history. This part is so legendary, and I can’t wait to see what Jake and I can accomplish with it. The Dominican Republic is set to begin production on Road House later this month.
