In a report from The Wrap, Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO Max’s Batgirl starring Leslie Grace has been delayed by Warner Bros. In the first screenings of the movie, which cost $90 million dollars to make, Warner Bros. Discovery may have decided to shelve the project and avoid it from becoming a massive disaster. Those who viewed the incomplete picture said it was a tremendous letdown and looked cheap in compared to other productions of the same calibre. J.K. Simmons, who portrayed Commissioner James Gordon in both incarnations of Justice League, was expected to reprise his role in Batgirl, which is based on a DC Comics character.
actor who portrayed Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 and 1992 films, as well as in the future The Flash movie, was also a part of the production. Alysia Yeoh, the transgender vigilante, was played by Ivory Aquino; Rebecca Front, Corey Johnson, and Ethan Kai also appeared as Batgirl’s supporting cast members. A reduced budget was used to develop Batgirl for HBO Max, compared to the larger DC films that were made for theatrical distribution. As a result, Warner Bros.
Discovery has decided to shelve the project, presumably because the final product was judged inadequate in comparison to the company’s past superhero releases. THR claims that the cut is part of new cost-saving measures for the studio, in addition to canning Scoob! : Holiday Haunt. While it’s disappointing to know fans won’t get to witness Grace in the superheroine role, it had been widely expected that Batgirl will be released in 2022 before it was abruptly cancelled. After reading a story by Christina Hodson, who previously worked on Birds of Prey and will be penning the next The Flash film, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah directed and produced Batgirl.
There is a good chance we’ll miss out on Hodson’s ambition to bring together several DC projects under the same framework, given he was linked to both Batgirl and The Flash. Because of Ezra Miller’s arrest in Hawaii for public misbehaviour, the movie’s future at Warner Bros. Discovery has apparently been reevaluated, and the destiny of The Flash is now in doubt. This is a pity, considering Michael Keaton returned to the role of the Dark Knight for the second time in 30 years in both films. Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the next two DC movies to enter theatres, will be released on October 21 and December 21, respectively. Both projects’ ties to Justice League and prior DC films were disclosed at SDCC. When asked about the cancellation of Batgirl, Warner Bros. has yet to respond.
