She Taught Love, the feature picture debut of music video director Nate Edwards, will star Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Darrell Britt-Gibson, and Taissa Farmiga, according to Deadline. “The love tale of this generation,” as the film is dubbed, follows a self-destructive guy and a lady with a finite shelf life. Perfect timing for a first date…and a romantic relationship! Tobe Nwigwe, Doja Cat, Summer Walker, and Bryson Tiller are just a few of the musicians that have worked with Edwards on music videos. Britt-feature Gibson’s scripting debut is also included in the film.
Perhaps his most well-known role is that of Judas and the Black Messiah, Shaka King’s historical crime thriller featuring him. Nominations for the Academy Awards included Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Song for the film, which took home two statuettes. “Making a film like She Taught Love seems like a revolutionary act, but it shouldn’t,” he added, describing the picture as “culturally and commercially vital”. Even though Hollywood is fond of telling stories about the hardships faced by people of colour, there is so much more to the African American experience. We are everything, in fact. As a follow-up, This film, a love tale that spans generations, offers a window into the world as it is today, colourful and full of wonder.
Being young, Black, and in love at the same time is a powerful combination. I’m ecstatic about our team’s shared vision for this culturally and commercially relevant picture, which is being directed by the tremendously brilliant Nate Edwards. Sanjay Sharma and Milan Chakraborty of Marginal MediaWorks, the film’s producers, said, “Although She Taught Love is a generational love story—equal parts Before Sunrise, Poetic Justice and Love & Basketball—in light of the recent years in America, it has also grown more vital than ever.”
Additionally, the audience demand and cash that might have been generated by disregarding Black-led films have been publicly proven. Despite the film’s focus on Blackness, it doesn’t focus on it. It’s a modern love story that’s both relevant and timeless. Previously, Howell-Baptiste appeared opposite Kristen Bell in Queenpins. On top of that, she starred in Disney’s Cruella and popular television shows including NBC’s The Good Place and BBC America’s The Fall. Netflix’s The Sandman will be her next project. It’s possible to catch American Horror Story’s Farminga in The Gilded Age, an upcoming HBO historical piece. She also featured alongside Hilary Swank in Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, What They Had.
