MASSIVE CABBAGES, I TELL YOU! Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender will soon be able to hear that sound again, thanks to the new season. According to Avatar News, James Sie, who played Cabbage Merchant in the animated series, will reprise his role in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the character. The Cabbage Merchant was a recurring joke in the first two seasons of the original animated series. There were many times when the Cabbage Merchant and his cabbages were at the wrong location at the wrong time. When fighting the bad guys, one of the main protagonists would inadvertently damages his waggon load of cabbages. Because of this, he would frequently utter the now-iconic line, “My cabbages!”
For fans of the programme, the character has become a beloved regular since it premiered. Legend of Korra’s son, who is also voiced by Sie, also makes an appearance in the sequel series. In addition to being an accomplished actor, Sie is also a well-known voice artist. For those who haven’t seen Avatar, they may recognise his voice. Besides Jackie Chan Adventures, Kwan in Danny Phantom, and many characters in series like King of the Hill and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, his voice has been used for a wide range of roles.
Sie has also appeared in Ice Age: The Meltdown and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Sie’s appearance is presently unclear, but if the animated series is any indication, there will be plenty of chances to wreak havoc on his cabbages in the quest to rescue the planet. Previously confirmed cast members Gordon Cormier, Kiawentio Tarbell, Ian Ousley, Daniel Dae Kim, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Lim Kay Siu, and Ken Leung will be joined by Sie in the new film. A live-action remake of the iconic cartoon series has long troubled fans of the original series. In 2010, a cinematic adaptation was attempted, but it was met with scepticism.
That Sie is involved with this new adaption, on the other hand, is a promising development. Among the most common complaints from fans was that the film didn’t show much respect for the series and didn’t accurately portray what made the series so popular in the first place. As such, the inclusion of the Cabbage Merchant in this new Netflix series, as well as the return of the original voice actor, might be a good omen for the future.
