‘Shang- Chi’s’ Destin Daniel Cretton has been tapped to direct ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.’ Release Date & Cast Details

MCU Phase 6’s last chapter, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, will be helmed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ director, Destin Daniel Cretton, Marvel Studios revealed today. According to THR, Cretton was picked for the role because of his success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Shang-Chi, which grossed $432 million worldwide despite the epidemic. The Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, would have all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s superheroes battling Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conquerer. ‘The Multiverse Saga,’ an enormous endeavour involving MCU Phases 4, 5, and 6, will come to an end with this narrative.

As part of the ongoing crossover event, Marvel Studios will release Avengers: Secret Wars a few months following Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Two Avengers films directed by The Russo Brothers were part of Marvel Studio’s previous crossover narrative, “The Infinite Saga.” Considering how closely linked the first two Avengers movies were, Cretton is an obvious choice to helm Avengers: Secret Wars. However, only the first portion of the tale has been formally assigned to Cretton by Marvel Studios. With only a few appearances, Easter eggs, and mid-credit sequences linking it to the larger MCU, Cretton’s direction of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings functioned as an independent film with only a few connections to the larger MCU.

Despite this, the film earned positive reviews from reviewers and audiences alike, and Marvel Studios has already announced a sequel. Wonder Man, a new Disney+ series based on a strong superhero from Marvel Comics, will be directed by Cretton as well. Marvel disclosed its Phases 4 through 6 strategies at the 2022 SDCC in addition to the two new Avengers films. Phase 4 will conclude with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+ and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in cinemas, and Phase 5 will ramp up the pace and begin working towards the next big crossover, as we discovered during the event. Since Phase 5 begins with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which stars Kang the Conqueror as its principal antagonist, this makes sense. On May 2, 2025, Marvel Studios will release Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in cinemas. On November 7, 2025, Avengers: Secret Wars will be released.
